Name: Common Brown Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

Where we find them: In South and Southeast Asia, including countries such as India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and southern China.

Size: Males 3.7 to 5.0 cm, and females 5.7 to 7.5 cm.

Average lifespan: 5 years

Diet: They are insectivorous, feeding primarily on insects such as flies, mosquitoes, crickets, locusts, and moths.

Weird Info: During the breeding season, males congregate near still or slow-moving water bodies and emit a distinctive loud, duck-like “quack” to attract females. Females lay between 100 to 400 eggs in a protective foam nest attached to vegetation or other objects above the water surface. The eggs hatch after 3 to 4 days, and the tadpoles develop inside the foam nest before dropping into the water below.

Τα θηλυκά γεννούν μεταξύ 100-400 αυγά μέσα σε ένα αφρώδες υλικό το οποίο κολλάει πάνω σε φυτά ή άλλα αντικείμενα πάνω από την επιφάνεια του νερού. Τα αυγά εκκολάπτονται μετά από 3-4 ημέρες και τα νεογνά αναπτύσσονται μέσα στον αφρό μέχρι να πέσουν τελικά στο νερό.
