Diet: Carnivore: they eat clams, crustaceans, sea urchins, starfish.

Weird Info: The snail employs a specialized feeding mechanism to subdue its prey, particularly starfish. Upon capturing a starfish, the triton uses its muscular foot to secure the prey and then extends its proboscis to penetrate the starfish’s tissue. Through this proboscis, the triton injects saliva containing toxic enzymes, which paralyze the starfish, facilitating consumption.

General Info: This species is found in shallow subtidal and offshore coral, on algae, boulder, coral, rock, sand, and shell habitats up to 15 meters depth.

Η περίεργη πληροφορία για τα σαλιγκάρια τρομπέτες: Το αγαπημένο τους σνακ είναι οι αστερίες. Όταν αιχμαλωτίσουν τον αστερία, τον ακινητοποιούν με το μυώδες τους πόδι και στη συνέχει τεντώνουν τη προβοσκίδα τους για να εισχωρήσουν στο δέρμα του αστερία. Μέσω της προβοσκίδας διαχέουν ένα υγρό με τοξικά ένζυμα το οποίο παραλύει τον αστερία.

Γενικές πληροφορίες: Τα συναντάμε σε ρηχά νερά πάνω σε φύκια, κοράλλια, βράχους και άμμο, σε βάθη έως 15 μέτρα.
