DID YOU KNOW THAT: Seahorses Are Great Dads?
🍼 They Carry the Babies
In a unique role reversal, male seahorses get pregnant! The female deposits her eggs into a special pouch on the male’s belly, and he fertilizes and carries them until they hatch.
⏳ They Do the Hard Work
During the pregnancy (which can last 10 days to 6 weeks), the dad protects and nourishes the eggs. He even regulates the pouch’s conditions — like a natural incubator!
🎉 They Give Birth
When the time comes, the male goes through labor and gives birth to dozens, sometimes hundreds, of tiny baby seahorses. Then he’s ready to do it all over again!
This makes them one of nature’s most dedicated dads!!!
