Weird Info: They are excellent swimmers. They are often found near bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and swamps, and have been reported far out at sea, enabling them to colonize many small islands within their range.

General info:

• Reticulated pythons are known for their distinctive color pattern, featuring a complex geometric design of black, white, and yellow markings, which provides effective camouflage in their natural habitats. Despite their size, they are adept climbers and swimmers. While generally not aggressive towards humans, they can be dangerous if threatened or provoked.
• Due to their striking appearance, they are often hunted for their skin, used in traditional medicine, and sold in the pet trade, making them one of the most economically important reptiles worldwide.
• Reticulated pythons (Malayopython reticulatus) possess specialized heat-sensing structures known as labial pits. These pits are located along their upper and sometimes lower lips and enable the snakes to detect infrared radiation emitted by warm-blooded prey. This adaptation allows them to effectively hunt in low-light conditions or complete darkness.

Διατροφή: Καταναλώνουν θηλαστικά και κάποιες φορές πτηνά.

Περίεργη πληροφορία: Είναι εξαιρετικοί κολυμβητές και πιθανότατα για αυτό τον λόγο υπάρχει τόσο μεγάλη έκταση εξάπλωσης του είδους. Έχουν βρεθεί να κολυμπούν μέχρι και στην ανοικτή θάλασσα.

Γενικές πληροφορίες:

• Είναι γνωστά για το χρώμα τους και τα σχέδια του σώματος με μαύρο, λευκό και κίτρινο χρώμα το οποίο παρέχει εξαιρετικό καμουφλάζ στη φύση.
• Παρά το μέγεθός τους είναι καλοί κολυμβητές και αναρριχητές.
• Λόγω των χρωμάτων του δέρματός τους, συχνά χρησιμοποιούνται για κατασκευή ρούχων. Κατά διαστήματα έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί στην παραγωγή  φαρμάκων και ως κατοικίδια. Για όλους αυτούς τους λόγους,  είναι ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά είδη ερπετών από οικονομικής άποψης.
• Έχουν αισθητήρες θερμότητας στο άνω και κάτω χείλος τους στόματος βοηθώντας τους να βρίσκουν θήραμα ακόμη και στο σκοτάδι καθώς μπορούν να ανιχνεύουν την υπέρυθρη ακτινοβολία.
